Moneydance 2022 App Reviews

Canadian Banks not an option

I read all the info about this app before buying it, and it said I could dowload transactions from hundreds of financial institutions. My bank, RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) has over 400 branches in the USA, and is in 50 other countries around the world. Its short sighted not to have major banks from other countries, at the very least they should mention only some US banks interface with this app.

Easy banking

I have had no problem with this software, for the price you cant beat it. It does exactly what it is sapposed to do. It has really helped keep all my accounts balanced and tracks all my investments. I am happy with this app and think that it is worth the money.

No customer service

I wanted to switch to Moneydance because the software supports multiple currencies. Ironically, as a Canadian user the company cannot be bothered to help me. I was moving my files from Quicken Essentials to Moneydance and all my accounts got changed into USD after the import. I tried to solve the problem myself by reading the online user forum but could not find a solution to my problem. So I posted to the forum, first as a question and when that was ignored, as a request. I received no help whatsoever. I will have to return this software since I dont want to recreate years of finanical records from scratch. If you are a Canadian user transitioning from Quicken Essentials, then you should avoid Moneydance.

No Go For Canadians

The software comes highly recommended by 3rd party reports and I’m sure it works well but if you are Canadian this is not the software for you. Even if you are in the US do some homework and make sure your bank is listed in the banks that this software connects with. I’m sure it works well if you can connect to your bank, otherwise you are looking at a very confusing and manual way of getting transactions into the software. I wish software like this was more fluid with Canadian institutions but for now I’ll chaulk it up to an expensive learning lesson.

Great App

Great app. Does everything you could want to track and manage personal finances.

Great app

Been using Moneydance for a couple of years now. Excellent app. Never noticed any serious bugs at all. And any little minor ones were quickly fixed. When I was still using a PC, I used Quicken, but since it isn’t available on Mac, I switched to Moneydance, and have found it to be every bit as good.

Very Happy

I switched to MoneyDance from Quicken PC in Jan of 2013 and never looked back. Import/conversion was flawless. Support (rarely needed) has been prompt and accurate. Bugs are rare and have never corrupted data. Syncs to iPhone and iPad seamlessly. I have recommended this app to many friends.

Very good personal account book

Even though the initial investment is rather expensive, but, this is very useful App as long as you get used to. I appreciate its synching function between Mac, iPhone and iPad, which works seamlessly. If Japanese language version is available, I highly recommend to those who prefer japanese version.

Frustrating

It’s actually really close to being great. But the main thing I want is to use the budgeting feature. Unfortunately, the budgeting feature is extremely unreliable and sometimes when I jump away to another screen and come back, it will have doubled a bunch of my budget items. Then I have to go through and correct them all one at a time by hand. There are bugs like this here and there thoughout the app. If it weren’t for the buggy-ness, I would love it.

Is this the Moneydance 2015 version described on the vendor’s web site?

Was hoping for something simpler as I need a quick fix!!

Ok upgrade

There are some minor annoyances with the upgrade. Time will tell.

Doesn’t work with online banking

This application doesn’t work with online banking… won’t connect to my bank.

New appearance lowered quality and usability

Under the general catch phrase of pleasing all of the people all of the time, which is impossible, count me as disappointed and frustrated. First, the new and simplified icon is a great improvement over the previous icon, as viewed in the dock; however, everything else about the new look is a disservice to the quality of the app. The colors, fonts, symbols, dotted lines, etc., etc., have lowered the overall appearance and usability. It is simply unpleasant to look at and difficult to use. Please reconsider this, in my opinion, misstep.

2015 Upgrade Problems

I have been using Moneydance for about 2 years. I finally switch from Quicken after changing to an Apple computer. It took some time adjusting to Moneydance but after a while and some upgrades, I enjoyed using it. After seeing some comments about the 2015 upgrade, I decided to wait to upgrade. Unfortunately, the software was updated automatically and I am not crazey about the new look (color sceam) which is hard to read. In spite of that, everything was working until I attempted to send an online payment. This is when I learned that most of my online payments accounts have disappeared. It looks like I may have to set them up again which is not good considering the number of accounts I have. No problems downloading transactions form my online accounts. I hope someone can tell me how to restore the online payment accounts.

Really poor

No customer service. Zero. Do it yourself support. After two years of use (switching from QuickBooks) it dumped my online banking settings, and even after following their DIY support it sill wont connect to my bank. Sorry Infinite Kind, youre kind is kinda amateur.

Fix the Interface Plz!

The new version only allows you to completely minimize the window or have it full screen. This is extremely annoying. You cannot use quick keys to do it either. This makes it extremely difficult to look at anything else or multi-task at all on your computer while using Moneydance (which unfortunatley is exactly what you have to do when using Moneydance and looking at your broker or bank website). Please fix this!

Love this App

I have been using this app for 2 years now and have not experienced any of the issues that others have complained about. I have synced it between Macs and Ios devices and bought a new mac and picked right up where the old left off. This is a fantastic replacment for Quicken!!

Duplicating transactions

This app has costed me so many hours of straightening out transactions. I enter expenses in like a regular checkbook ledger, but when I download to sync, some sync perfectly and others create a new transaction, leaving the old one in, and resulting in a duplicate entry. Major frustration and total waste of time. Also, exporting to Excel is practically useless. The format is more complicated than just downloading directly from your bank and resorting. And, it does not limit accounts. Although you tell it to export only 1 account, it still exports ALL of them. So annoyed. Will look for other options.

Limited printing options

The App (using OS X 10.x.x) prints everything in Landscape Mode which makes an otherwise good App useless for check writing. I brought the lack of this App to permit Page Setup capability to Infinitekind over a year ago. I am not the only one to bring this issue up, and in response to another’s complaint an Infinitekind staffer said they were working on this issue. This was in February of this year. How long does it take for them to fix this problem. Older versions from 2013 had a workaround for this issue, but why should a user have to engage in work arounds? The workaround no longer works with the latest OS X. Stay away from this App until Infinitekind’s programers can correct this issue. I haven’t run across any checks that are printed in Landscape Mode, so Moneydance is useless to write checks if you keep your Mac OS’s up to date. UPDATED RATING Just installed the update 2015.6 thinking and hoping that the check printing issue noted above had been corrected. With this update I could not tell because the program will NOT print a check (test from Check Printing in Preferences or from the program itself (an actual check). I use El Capitan. Of course the problem above existed before El Capitan. Whatever is so hard about printing with this Apps authors seems not to be solvable for them. About a month or so ago (after first bringing this issue up over a year ago) I had received an email from the company admiting the check printing issue so I had hopes that the issue had been corrected. On my iMac running El Capitan it HAD NOT been corrected. There are other Apps that don’t have this problem: Quicken and Moneyspire for two.

Solid financial product, great online help community

Used onine tracking tools for 2+ years and got very frustrated with product marketing and unsolicited advisor calls. After reading reviews, bank disclosures on liability coverage for sharing profile information, and how online sites work (page “scraping" etc), decided to try a stand-alone app. If you follow accounting practices, this program works well. I don’t miss instant updates on my net worth or share performance; just like any business, a bi-weekly financial review is more than enough to stay on top of the finances !
