I use Moneydance everyday for tracking all of my accounts. Version 2015.6 is excellent - easy to use, great sync on different devices using Dropbox.

I was so disappointed when Quicken was discontinued. I bought MoneyDance with very little expectations and was thrilled to slowly learn how easy the transition would go. Everything I loved about Quicken is in this app, plus all the upgrades I would have anticipated. I love that the accounts link together, I love the summary page, I love the ongoing graphs in the side bar. MoneyDance does everything I need in a comfortably familiar format.
I was a long time user of QUICKEN. When they stopped supporting MAC, I tried many potential replacements. None were as good for my use. Finally I settled on MONEYDANCE. I use it to track all of my financial assets. I do NOT want a CLOUD based program and I only use the financial institution download features. FUNCTIONALITY/BUDGETING/SETUP - 8/10 Setting Reminders is cumbersome and prone to error. I have several CU accounts and modifing them has been troublesome. RELIABILITY/CONNECTIVITY - 6/10 Repeated issue with communication to download financial institution (such as Fidelity) information - difficult to resync. INTERFACE/REPORTING- 7/10 I can get the important information, but flexible charts and graphs need to be improved. SUPPORT - 3/10 Have never solved the issues I have discusses - I finally gave up.
I moved to Mac from Windows. I had to find a Personal Finance software. I read that Quicken for Mac was not as comprehensive as the Windows version. I’m pretty satisfied with Moneydance. I think overall it’s a cleaner package where Quicken was kind of clunky. If I could give it 4.5, I would. Some things that I would like to see is download support for web connect and some more custom options for defining asset classes of my securities.
I have used Quicken in the past, but decided to try Moneydance 2014. Absolutely great. Caution: I do not use MD for investments. I have just upgraded to 2015 and it looks even better.
I switched to Moneydance in early 2014 when the most recent version of Quicken was a poor performer compared to the old version running on previous Mac OS. Transition to Moneydance was easy and over the past year as I learned more of the features I have come to appreciate the excellent performance of Moneydance. I keep track of all my stock market investments, checking, savings and other accounts. The App downloads daily stock quotes as long as you have correctly entered the ticker symbol and the number of stocks for each symbol and the date of the transactions. The price quotes are automatically downloaded by Moneydance.
I have been using Moneydance since its inception. Back then I was forced to find a new financial software which would track my bank accounts and generate a variety of reports. After taking the program for a test drive I realized that this software was a keeper. Today’s version is running on a new Mac and I appreciate all of the latest refinements. Moneydance deserves great accolades - it easily syncs with my lending institution, has worked without any glitches, and touts some nifty “intelligent” features like recognizing ledger history & auto-suggesting similar payee entries. In short, a well-crafted app with helpful online support.
I’ve been using MD for almost 3 years now. Does everything I want it to do. Have had a couple of issues that the support staff resolved quickly for me. You know what one of the best things about this software is? They aren’t bugging you all the time to buy more of their stuff, to upgrade, etc. They just produce a good product and support it after the sale. I’ll never go back to Quicken.
Moneydance does everything you need it to do and nothing you don’t. Reminders, budgeting, and a solid interface.
I had to quickly find a replacemnt for Quicken 2015 for Mac after it crashed 13 times in the first 4 days I owned it. Moneydance has everything Quicken used to have before Intuit decided the needs of the users didn’t match their desire to change the software. I am still very much a novice and since I had to jump in with both feet without reading the instructional materials, I’m sure there is much I still have to learn. But I can keep up with my day to day banking and keep my accounts accurate. The only issue I have run across is that unfortunately, my financial institution (Chase) only creates .qif files for Quicken. When I tried to use that .qif file in Moneydance, it created a bit of a problem with additional entries that didn’t belong. So now I just manually input my data, after checking with my bank for cleared transactions.
I found Moneydance when Intuit stopped supporting the Mac. Now I heard that Quicken is back, but I’m going to stay with Moneydance. easy to use.
Like many others, I ran across Moneydance while looking for an alternative to Quicken for Mac. And I’m glad I did. It’s a solid performer behaving as I would expect. After a recent Quicken update that turned bad, I HAD to find another personal finance software option. Moneydance delivered. And the more I dig in, the more I like the program. There’s certainly room for user enhancements, but it’s on the right track and it just works.
We are very happy with Moneydance. After two years of use, the program keps getting better. I especially like having a calendar view of bills. Makes managing money easier. The only thing on my wish list for this app is a keyboard shortcut for entering whether entries have cleared.
This App is very easy to use and does everything I needed. I don’t use it to track or account for investments, only to track persona; expenses. I find that importing transactions from credit cards very easy. I do not import transactions from checking accounts. I have an accounting background and don’t know for sure how someone without bookkeeping knowledge do. However, I think most individuals would have no trouble using Moneydance. I would recommend it to any Mac user. I also use the iPhone version which is also easy to use and syncs seamlessly with the desktop version.
I’m not fan of Quicken Essentials, but this APP is not nearly as easy to use as QE, although you will find reviews to the contrary. Is it OK, yes BUT. The transition/impot after the Quicken creash was OK, not seamless, but OK. I am still trying to sort out the investment and asset accounts from checking. Scheduled transactions are easy, but ver confusing at first. What I will say in its favor was that I did not loose the three years of data from QE! That is a plus! Editing is not nearly as easy as QE. I will give it several weeks of use before rendering a better rating than average. Nothing in the MAC world has yet to match Microsoft Money—and I keep hoping that someone will resurrect MM in an OS form.
As a Quicken for Windows user for many years, but a new MacBook user, I’ve found this wonderful program a pleasure to use. Yes it took some time and effort to acclimate but well worth it. Excellent support, it syncs quickly using direct connect to all my Chase accounts, Discover and Citi with no problems. I’m very pleased!
I just purchased this app based on the many positive reviews, however i would like to get my money back…. it’s very unintiutive and will not sync with my accounts at Bank of America..one of the largest banks in the country.
Just setting up a checking account is a failure.
I needed a new Check book APP that would work on my MAC BOOK. I saw this and decided to give it a try, I’m glad I did! It is very easy to use, and has some extra features that are realy handy, lie the built in calender to keep track of bills and other transactions. So far I am extreamly satisfied, and would recomend it to my friends and family.
I am an old user of Quicken from back in the 1990s, when Quicken for windows was really the only game in town. The big buzz is now all about downloading your transactions. I down loaded mine and found that none of the accounts had the balance that I saw on the bank website. It just seems like by now Financial tracking Apps would be much better refined and intuitive. But is seems they are getting worse not better. You would think tracking finances would be a basic operation for a Mac or Windows, however it is not! There should be a guide for the novice getting started like Quicken used to have years ago. I can’t imagine the beginner picking up any of these money apps and in an hour or two having the basic structure of money tracking setup…..Hope for more updates.
